Ramaphosa: SADC leaders ‘regret what has befallen South Africa as a country’

SADC leaders have recognised the complexity of the migration challenge facing South Africa and the need for regional cohesion in addressing it, President Cyril Ramaphosa said as he closed the bloc’s 46th Ordinary Summit in Durban on Monday.

The issue was discussed behind closed doors at the summit, which came amid heightened tensions over undocumented migration in South Africa and a series of anti-immigration protests.

On Monday, the March and March movement protested in Durban and handed over a memorandum calling on SADC leaders to address undocumented migration.
