Nigerians in SA urged to refrain from making provocative statements.

Some Nigerians living in South Africa say they will retaliate if they are attacked by locals.

The comments follow xenophobic attacks that gripped some areas in Gauteng and Pretoria in recent weeks.

South Africans residing in Nigeria were given until today to leave that country or face attacks.

The Nigerian community leader in South Africa, Coco Anizoba, has however urged his fellow brothers in the country not to fuel the fire by making provocative statements.

In an interview with SABC Online, Anizoba says the recent xenophobic attacks have caused a lot of panic in Nigeria.

The South African High Commissioner in Abuja has been quoted as having said ‘security had been beefed up to protect South Africans in Nigeria’.

It remains to be seen whether the attacks on South Africans living in Nigeria will be carried out.
