The government has refused to rule out imposing a wealth tax after a former Labour leader called for a new charge on the richest in the UK.
On Sunday, Lord Neil Kinnock suggested that prime minister Sir Keir Starmer should implement a 2% wealth tax on assets above £10m.
He told Sky News’s Sunday Morning With Trevor Phillips programme there are things the government could do that “would commend themselves to the great majority of the general public” and they include “asset taxes”.
