Is South Africa moving to Level 4? Key restrictions likely to change

The NCCC, which governs the lockdown, will meet on Sunday, hours before President Cyril Ramaphosa addresses the nation.

It’s just hours before President Cyril Ramaphosa addresses the nation on government’s latest response to the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s already been a manic week and a half for South Africa as it navigated the restrictions that were just recently implemented.

The country is currently on Level 3 of the COVID-19 lockdown – but with the infections continuing to soar and provinces like Gauteng expecting to see a peak in cases, it’s back to the drawing table for government.

The National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC), which governs the COVID-19 lockdown, is set to meet on Sunday, 27 June 2021, which will then be followed by a special cabinet, during which the recommendations on the new restrictions, will be finalised. Ramaphosa will then address the nation at 20:00.
