Labour want the council to create a plastic-free task force involving local businesses and organisations
Plymouth's Labour group are demanding the council ditches plastic - in the hope it will encourage the rest of the city to follow suit.
Councillor Darren Winter is to present an action plan detailing how Plymouth could banish plastics altogether at a meeting of all council chiefs on Monday, January 29.
The plan will call for chiefs to scrap the unnecessary use of Single Use Plastics (SUP) by 2020, and request they create a task force to help roll it out across Plymouth.
Labour say the council should take leadership on this issue "by striving to become Britain's first 'Plastic Free Coastline' accredited city.
