DA’s Tshwane gov sets up special unit to deal with increasing number of land grabs.

With the current political rhetoric from all sides, it's hardly surprising that some people are simply taking whatever land they want.

BusinessTech reports that, in an attempt to halt the rise of illegal land grabs, the City of Tshwane has set up a dedicated unit to deal with the issue.

Yeah, folks, it’s become such a big problem in SA that specialised units – units that could have been tasked with community safety had they not been needed for this – have had to be set up by the eThekwini, Cape Town and now Tshwane municipalities to stop people from taking land illegally.

According to Tshwane’s human settlements MMC Mandla Nkomo, some of the contributing factors to the surge in illegal land occupations are politics and criminal elements. Nkomo told Pretoria News on Thursday that local councillors as well as politicians just pick a piece of either public or private property, sell it to whoever wants to pay and next thing an informal settlement has sprung up.
