£20 billion cash injection could lead to 'new industrial revolution' in Derby.

A £20 billion investment could create a "new industrial revolution" in Derby, the Shadow Chancellor has said.

MP John McDonnell said there were splits in Government over Brexit and felt the Prime Minister could call an election as soon as next year. He also condemned the Government for "discriminating against" needy communities and leaving Labour-led councils in deprived areas, such as Derby, strapped for cash.

Mr McDonnell was speaking to Labour members from the East Midlands at Derby's Riverside Centre in Pride Park, where he vowed a Labour-led council would bring in a new taxation system to target tax evasion and avoidance "never seen before".

The MP for Hayes and Harlington said money recovered from tax dodgers could then be reinvested to clear the deficit. Mr McDonnell outlined plans to invest £500 billion to bring in jobs and solve the housing crisis around the country, with £19.5 billion planned for the East Midlands.
