Russia out to impress in Africa.

Russia is pursuing costly state oil and platinum projects in Africa despite an economic crisis at home.

Moscow is hoping that its involvement in African resources development projects will open doors on the continent for Russian state and private companies.

Russia wants to bolster sales of its businesses hit by Western sanctions over the conflict in Ukraine.

Moscow has focused on building ties with Asia since the US and EU sanctions against it came into force last year.
