The meeting is the first time the minister has been in the same room with the president since her public backing of Atiku Abubakar.

President Muhammadu Buhari is currently presiding over Wednesday's Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja with Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Alhassan in attendance.

The meeting is the first time the minister has been in the same room with the president since her public backing of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for the 2019 presidential elections.

While many people have criticised her public stance and called for her to be sacked, she doubled down on her comments in an interview with BBC Hausa, stating that she would support Atiku over President Buhari if both men contest in the presidential election in two years time.

While the under fire minister showed up at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday, September 7, she was unable to meet the president or his Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari.

Despite the public outcry against her premature show of support for Atiku, the minister was warmly received at the FEC meeting after she arrived a few minutes to the 11am commencement.

She notably exchanged pleasantries with  the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udo Udoma, Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun.

She also reportedly had a quick chat with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo before the meeting commenced with the arrival of President Buhari.

The meeting is also the council's first in two weeks after last week's session was cancelled with the president still in Daurafor the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said the reason for the cancellation of the meeting was due to a lack of adequate time to prepare the necessary documents.
