#TaxiRapes: Another suspect on the loose.

Police are looking for this man who is
alleged to have been the driver of a
Ridgeway-Southdale taxi in which a
woman was robbed and raped.
Police in Gauteng are appealing for information in helping with the arrest of another man linked to the taxi rapes that left many woman Joburg women scared of boarding minibus taxis.

The latest information relates to the armed robbery and rape of a woman who had boarded a taxi from Ridgeway to Southdale on April 26.

The man that police are looking for is believed to have been the driver of the minibus taxi that the woman boarded that day. Police said he was with two other men when he stopped the vehicle at an unknown location and  R1 200 was withdrawn from the woman's bank card. A second suspect also raped the victim while the vehicle was in motion, police said.

Earlier this year, a woman who had boarded a taxi with her 10 year old son onOntdekkers Road, Delarey was also raped and robbed. Police said the suspects later used her bank cards to buy among other things alcohol.

She was also robbed of her jewellery, wallet, bank cards, cell phone, house keys and R1 700. Police said the rape f women in taxis prompted the Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Deliwe De Lange to established a team of detectives from the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit  to investigate those cases.

These include incidents that were reported at Meadowlands, Booysens, Johannesburg Central, Rosebank, Alberton, Germiston, Kliptown, Protea Glen, Langlaagte, Honeydew and Dobsonville.

Four people have been arrested so far and their cases are pending at the Protea and Johannesburg Magistrate Courts.

There are also several leads  that are being followed  as some of the suspects are believed to be taxi drivers working for certain taxi associations. Anyone who has information may contact an investigation team leader detective Captain Elon Bester cell phone no 079 890 7472 or Constable John Mokoena cellphone no 071 675 6166 or may report to any police station. Those whose information assist in the conviction of the suspects will be offered a reward.
