AN IRISH MINISTER HAS GONE PUBLIC ABOUT HIS FRUSTRATION WITH TORY “INCOHERENCE” OVER BREXIT UNDER LAME DUCK THERESA MAY

An Irish government minister has revealed his frustration at the UK Government’s chaotic approach to Brexit and said it will only be resolved when Theresa May is replaced.

Agriculture minister Michael Creed gave his frank assessment at the state of the Tory administration in an interview with the Irish Examiner. He said:

“There is no political coherence there. There is no leadership on Brexit. Various ministers talk about hard Brexit, soft Brexit, no deal being better than a bad deal. The worst possible deal is no deal, both for them and for us.

“The lack of any coherence is a huge problem for us and until they get their act together, what we are trying to do… It appears to me that the instability is spilling over, impacting on the kind of Brexit. There is no coherence.”

Creed, a member of the conservative Fine Gael party, added that the leadership vacuum wouldn’t be filled until the Tories removed the lame duck Prime Minister:

“I would suspect that you’re in a situation where there’s going to be a leadership challenge to Theresa May and, until that issue is firmly resolved, there’ll be no coherence around their strategy.”

The newspaper also reports that German politicians told Fine Gael ministers on a recent visit to Berlin that Britain’s position on Brexit was a “disgrace” and “farcical”.

Creed’s willingness to give such a candid view on his British counterparts might have something to do with the behaviour of Michael Gove.

An Irish journalist revealed yesterday that Gove had dropped a diplomatic clanger over plans to pull out of the European Fishers Convention, which would badly effect Ireland:
